Nybyskov Farm Profile
Welcome to our profile page. Hopefully by the time you are done reading it, you’ll know a little more about us. Nybyskov Farm was started 8years ago by me Flemming Rasmussen, a former agricultural engineer currently exploring an alternative way of life free from modern trappings.
My vision for Nybyskov Farm is to create a place for a much more wholesome quality of life. The base of the land is 5 hectares surrounded by a protective ground natural forest. The plan is to make Nybyskov a production unit for the subsistence and co-existence of people, animals and the wild nature. The farm intends to deliver products to the market and cooperate as much as possible with the community around.
All developments shall be geared towards building a stronger shield against any kind of threats the world is currently struggling with like climate change, unjust legislations or spillover effects of world markets. Sounds ambitious but what is life without aspiration? The plan is to create more independence and self-sufficiency always bearing in mind that the land is borrowed from the ones that follow us. This in turn will allow us to take paths that may not be economically viable such as raising various plants, animals and assorted seeds with the sole aim of learning and gaining knowledge. I firmly believe the experience is far more valuable than the money hoped to be attained.
The daily routine on the farm are not unlike any other farm. Each day begins with care of the animals, tending to the vegetables, fields and the buildings. Usually there are various projects going on at the farm, which you can be involved in like constructing a new pigsty, thatching roofs or fixing fences, cars and other machinery.
Depending on the time of the year, you’ll get stronger and learn things about the ways of the land. It’s quiet, scenic and the nature nearby is pleasant to be around. There are plenty of opportunities for hiking, mountain biking or climbing trees. There is a local wall climbing society that you can be involved with during your spare time. If you like solitude, the forest is perfect for hiking and searching for wild plants. This can be your escape while you work out the kinks in your mind.
Beside the volunteers and I, my children 8 and 5 are here every second week so it won’t be so lonesome. Most of the meals we have are produce from the farm. They include lamb, pork, chicken and vegetables.
We do hope you stop by some time. We look forward to having you around and becoming inspired by your enthusiasm.
